[Game Content]SHATTER ALL EXPECTATIONSThe new "XV" that transcends everything!Since its debut in 1994, the KOF fighting game series has been driving the world to the excitement with its appealing characters and unique game system. Six years have...

"The simple backdrop animations keep the game rooted with an old-school feel. That goes along with the game's remixed music, which is new, but delivers a quality soundtrack that's reminiscent of the 1990s. Very fitting since Super Street Fighter II Turbo first released in 1994." - Matt Swider, Publisher, Gaming Target

Dead or Alive 6, much like its immediate predecessor, is one part fighting game, one part fashion show, and one part schlocky action movie. Individually, each of the game's widely differing elements might not stand up to scrutiny. After all, DOA 6 isn't the best fighter, doesn't offer the deepest character customization, and doesn't quite reach the Tekken series' level of story insanity.

It's an odd game, but an interesting one if you open your mind to the insane concept of a two-button fighter based entirely on the idea of jumping and kicking. And 20-second rounds. And one-hit kills. And a line of scrimmage. Yes, Divekick is a fighting game freak show, but one worth checking out.

Despite removing and downplaying some series-specific elements, Garou doesn't feel any less of a Fatal Fury game, however. It's set in the Southtown, and it features multiple fighters with classic Fatal Fury lineages, whether it's blood relationships to, or martial-arts tutelage from, older characters. Kim Kaphwan isn't in the game, for example, but his sons continue his legacy of swift, combo-heavy tae kwon do kicks.

Strive comes with fewer extra modes than its predecessors, but there is a lot to love in this PC game, including astounding visuals, impressive character play styles, and snappy, lag-free online play courtesy of top-tier, rollback netcode. Strive is an approachable series entry that shakes up the Guilty Gear formula in the best ways possible.

In 2008, SNK celebrated the game's tenth anniversary by porting the team-based fighter to the PlayStation 2 as The King of Fighters '98: Ultimate Match, a game loaded with extra characters (including the almighty '96 Boss Team!), stages, moves, and gameplay modes. Now, a tweaked Ultimate Match is available for purchase under the title The King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match Final Edition.

The King of Fighters XIII: Steam Edition brings SNK's incredibly dense, 3-vs.-3, team-based fighter to the PC via Valve's video game marketplace. It's an all-around excellent fighting game, and one of the best in SNK's rich catalog.

When NetherRealm Studios released the blood-drenched Mortal Kombat X to consoles in 2015, the one-on-one fighting game continued to evolve via free and paid updates that added characters, balanced the roster, and improved online play. However, the High Voltage Studios-ported PC version of the game received zero post-launch support, much to the dismay of hardcore Mortal Kombat fans.

Thankfully, that changed with the Mortal Kombat XL update, a version of MKX that finally gives PC gamers all the extras that console-based fight fans have enjoyed for some time now. I dislike the idea of paying more money for PC content released long after the console version, but it's hard not to love the additions, which include even more fighters, stages, costumes, and gore.

MultiVersus, the cross-brand platform-fighter from Warner Bros. Games, lets you engage in fisticuffs using characters from DC Comics, Game of Thrones, Looney Tunes, and other properties. The free-to-play game has enough familiar faces (including Bugs Bunny, Iron Giant, and Wonder Woman, among others) and tight, multiplayer battles to keep your hooked for hours on end.

Tekken 7 is an incredibly tense game of jabs, feints, and sidesteps, because any hit may lead to a long combo sting. Factor in characters with move sets that emulate real martial arts, interactive stages that let you knock people through floors and walls, and terrific slowdown effects that happen when both fighters' health bars are in the red and they perform close-quarter melee attacks, and you have a fighting game that's essentially an interactive martial arts flick.

Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium is virtually identical to Capcom Arcade Stadium, save for the different game library and going with a pink background color instead of yellow. The player can adjust the individual settings on each game. The particulars vary between games, but these include items like difficulty level, number of points to get an extra life, game speed and so forth. The displays can be stretched into full screen or into letterboxed viewings with the original 4:3 aspect ratio. There are multiple save states to record progress across the multitude of games and a rewind feature to go back a few seconds if a mistake a made. The invincibility DLC that was one dollar on the original Stadium is now available as a free download.

Video game movies have had a bad reputation in Hollywood for decades, thanks in part to films like Street Fighter. This live-action adaptation of Capcom's hit video game franchise was unleashed upon an unsuspecting public in 1994 during the height of Street Fighter 2's popularity. This film is a treasure trove of unintentional hilarity, but perhaps that was director Steven E. de Souza's secret weapon: 25 years later, Street Fighter holds up better as a comedy than it does as an action movie.

Killer Instinct (not to be confused with the original game with the same name) is a free-to-play 2.5D fighting game developed by Double Helix (later by Iron Galaxy) and published by Microsoft for the Xbox One (as a launch title) on November 22, 2013. It was later released for the PC (running Windows 10) on March 28, 2016, featuring cross-platform play with Xbox One owners.

The free download does not come included with a permanent playable fighter (later changed so that protagonist Jago is unlockable). Instead, one single fighter is made available to everyone, which changes on a weekly basis. Characters are available for purchase à la carte (for $4.99 each) or in various bundles (including the multiple $19.99 Combo Breaker packs, the multiple $39.99 Ultra Edition packs, the $39.99 Definitive Edition pack, and the $59.99 Supreme Edition pack). Players are able to compete against the entire roster both offline and online, regardless of whether they own the opposing character or not.

Ports of the original arcade versions of Killer Instinct and Killer Instinct 2 can be downloaded as a bonus when players purchase the Ultra Edition packs (Season 1 for the first game, Season 2 for the second). Players who own the Supreme Edition pack get both games.

As of the release of Eagle, the game includes 29 playable characters. As a free-to-play game, each character is locked and most must be purchased (either à la carte or bundled). One fighter is temporarily made playable by all on a weekly basis. The character Shadow Jago is no longer purchasable, and can be unlocked for free through the Shadow Lords game mode.

Kilgore, a remix character based on Fulgore but with his own moveset, was released as a premium $9.99 download on January 3, 2017. Shin Hisako, another remix character based on Hisako but with her own moveset, was released as premium character for $4.99 on March 21, 2017. Eagle is a new original character that was released on June 27, 2017, included free for Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition and Season 3 Ultra owners, or available to purchase for $4.99.

This certainly ranks as one of the most original fighting games included on this list. You fight with fencing swords and death comes swiftly and often, but thankfully you respawn after each death. The objective isn't to destroy your enemy, but to make your way as far into their side of the arena as possible; it feels like a game of tug-of-war in this regard, and its appeal is expanded further by the surprising amount of depth involved. Like so many fighting games, Nidhogg 2 only really comes to life when a second player is in the mix, so make sure you've got a carbon-based challenger close at hand before downloading. 2ff7e9595c
